Who's Idea Was This, Anyway?

I really, really, really hope that if I ever get a silly idea again like a joint mother-daughter craft project for end-of-year teacher gifts that someone will remind me to either:

a) Be sure to start in March or
b) Be sensible and simply stick to the class/group gift!!

Please forgive the messy dining room table!

Ellie painted the vases, I'm making the book paper flowers. But oh, I didn't plan for quite how many teachers Ellie has once you start counting the various specialists! Nor for quite how time consuming the flowers are to make. Live and learn, right?

Luckily, the school library was getting rid of some too-worn books, so I was able to pick up an Encyclopedia Brown book to use for flowers for Ellie's general studies teacher and a couple of Hebrew language books for her three Hebrew and Jewish studies teachers. I wish I had some sheet music for her music teacher, but she and the other specialists we gift will just have to make do with more generic book choices. :)

I have to say, I really love the look of the Hebrew letters on the flowers. I may have to keep an eye out for other foreign language books. I imagine flowers from book pages in Arabic or Chinese characters would also be pretty darn cool looking.

But the last day of school is rapidly approaching, so I'm back to making book paper flowers!

Oh, and if you're interested, I'm using a modified version of this tutorial to make the flowers. :)
